What's
the low, low price?
Web design
I charge $50 per hour for standard website design and development.
This rate applies to labor such as content and graphics development,
site structure development, page creation, scanning, site
deployment and search engine registration. Basic database
integration is also charged at the $50 per hour rate. The
initial consultation for your website is free. Once I
understand the scope of your project, I can provide you with
a solid estimate for cost. A website can cost as little as
$150 or as much as $10,000 - it just depends on what you want
on your site. The good news is that you have a great deal
of control over how much your site costs - Please see the
page Bring down
your development costs for tips on ways to reduce development
time and expense. Following these suggestions can easily
save you hundreds of dollars!
I do not offer packages - like "6 pages for $400"
- because in most cases this restricts the client to preconceived
structures. This ensures that your site's content, structure
and functionality are tailored to meet your needs, and not
the canned agenda of a pre-established package.
Flash animations and video streaming media development are
billed at $75 per hour.
Please read the terms
of service page for information on billing schedules.
Other costs for a website - Along with the development costs,
there are two other charges that bear mentioning: First, you
will be charged for your domain name. Second, you will need
to have your site hosted with a domain host. For
more information about these expenses, please see the FAQ.
Website maintenance
As with website development, I charge a flat $50 per hour
rate for site maintenance. I don't offer a monthly "update
subscription" service because this almost always costs
the client more. For example, one of my clients was paying
$400 per month for such a service. After I redesigned their
site, it had four times the content which needed monthly updates,
and I still brought their average update costs down to around
$150. That's right - I provided 400% MORE labor to update
the site and brought their ongoing cost down by $250 per month.
If you would like to maintain the site yourself, I can set
up your computer and train you on how to do this. My charge
for this is $50 per hour. You will also be responsible for
costs associated with necessary software, hardware and Internet
access.

If I am shooting pictures for you as part of a website development
project, I will charge either the above rates or the standard
$50/hour rate, whichever is lower. Photography other
than standard product photography will be priced on a project-by-project
basis; I can't provide a set fee here because your needs may
require that I purchase props, hire models, travel, etc. I
can give you a solid estimate for cost when I understand the
scope of what you're looking for.
Writing
I charge $50 per hour plus expenses for writing. This labor
includes interviews and research, drafting, revisions, editing,
and (if requested) layout and design of final documents. Expenses
may include long distance phone charges, travel, printing
large quantities of final documents, etc.
Graphics, animations and video
I do most of my own graphics work for website development
at the standard $50 per hour rate. Extensive graphics work
that requires outsourcing to a subcontractor is billed at
$60 per hour. Animations and video development are billed
at $75 per hour. Once I understand the scope of your project,
I can provide you with a solid estimate for cost.
Other services
Other services are billed at the $50 per hour rate plus expenses.
Once I understand the scope of your project, I can provide
you with a solid estimate for cost.
