Before
you hire another web designer, ask them the following critical
questions:
- How should I implement my site as part of my total
marketing strategy?
- What can I do to market my site?
- Are the search engines the best way to drive traffic?
- How is a website different than other marketing media?
- What other types of marketing literature have you created?
(See the Writing section of this site for my answer to this
question.)
I think that in most cases, you'll find that individual designers
have a strong technology background but lack experience or
knowledge in marketing or advertising. While I've worked with
computers for over 15 years, my background is in writing
to sell - which allows me to focus the site's content
on marketing rather than technology. That's the key difference
between most other designers and myself.
So what are my answers to the above questions? Read
my FAQ for that information and much more about what is
involved with having a website on the Internet.
One more thing - After you've talked with other designers,
look at their sites. That's the best source you have to judge
a designer. As you view their sites, ask yourself: Do their
sites promote the represented businesses, or do they sell
special effects for the designer? Does the content dwell on
techie terms or do they discuss how they plan to help you
market and promote? Are the sites well organized and easy
to navigate? Can you find what you're looking for?
Then look at the
sites I've developed and ask the same questions. Considering
the answers you come up with to those questions, which website
designer do you feel will better meet your business needs?
If you want to establish your presence on the Internet with
a cost-effective website that presents your business in a
professional manner, fill out the contact form and tell me
a little about your business. I'll be in touch soon.
